The agri-food industry plays an important role in the economy of the Puglia region as the data on added value, employment and exports confirm. The companies express a strong demand for innovation and, the research institutions system throughout the territory is able to offer a quality range of innovation.

These strengths represent the solid foundations on which the Food Technological District and the limited liability consortium D.A.Re. were born and have grown. D.A.Re oversees its governance and management. This growth has evolved over the years through a number of significant milestones.

From 2004 to 2014 here are the milestones

Biopolo Dauno, a limited liability consortium, was created and its mission is to ensure the governance of Agricultural and Food Biotechnology Polo in Foggia.

Biopolo Dauno was transformed into the Regional Food Technological District (D.A.Re.) a limited liability consortium whose mission is to ensure the achievement of the Apulian Biotechnology District as provided for in the line of activity ranked 4 of the framework agreement signed by the Puglia Region with the MIUR and the MEF on 28th April 2005.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Puglia Region that qualifies D.A.Re. as the legal entity that oversees the government of the Food Technological District.
